Building on their work in year 4, the children will construct simple series circuits, to help them to answer questions about what happens when they try different components, for example, switches, bulbs, buzzers and motors. They will learn how to represent a simple circuit in a diagram using recognised symbols.
We will continue to work scientifically by: systematically identifying the effect of changing one component at a time in a circuit; designing and making a set of traffic lights, a burglar alarm or some other useful circuits.

As part of the Computing curriculum in Year 5 we are learning all about safe use of email as we communicate

Each child in year 5 will be assigned a Toco Mail email address which they can use to communicate with children in our school. All email accounts will be monitored by class teachers and children can not send or receive any messages which are not also seen by an adult. We hope that by using these email addresses the children in year 5 will become more aware of safe use of email and also be able to have some fun keeping in touch with friends.

If you would like to read more about Toco Mail please visit their website here where you can learn more about Toco Mail and how it works.

Our Classroom!

Reading area

In Class 10 we are lucky to have a large library area filled with lots of books for the children to share and enjoy. We have a library monitor who looks after the library and keeps track of all of the books. Children can sign books out of our class library and take them home to share with family and enjoy in their own time.

Our Pit!

We have a Pit in our classroom which reminds us that it is ok to be unsure when completing work. It encourages us to find tools which we can use to get ourselves out of the pit. Our Pit area also has some helpful resources and challenge activities which can help us to go further with our work.

Our computing area

We have a computer in our school which children can use in lesson times and in golden times to do research to help in lessons and complete different tasks. The children have written their own e safety rules which they have promised to stick by to stay safe when using the internet both in class and at home.

Packed Lunches, Healthy Snacks and our School Tuck Shop

At SMAAA we are a healthy school and encourage all children to eat healthy snacks and lunches.

Packed lunches brought into school should consist of healthy food and snacks and should not include chocolate or fizzy drinks.

Children may also bring in a healthy snack to enjoy at break time such as fruit, cheese or toast. Alternatively children can bring in some money to buy a snack from our tuck shop. The Junior tuck shop is run by the Year 6 children and Mr Lewis. They sell a variety of snacks including cheese, fruit and water. The money raised by the Tuck Shop is used to provide awards throughout the year.
