Year 5 (Class 10)
Welcome to Class 10’s webpage!
If you need to speak to a member of staff please come to the Year 5 door at the beginning or end of the day or call the school office to arrange a meeting.
Our School Councillors for this year are Jadene and Leighton. They will represent our class in school council meetings and share ideas from the children in our class.
Our Eco Warriors for this year are Sean and Thomas. They will help Miss Rossiter as part of the Eco Team and help to make our school more eco friendly.
During the SPRING TERM Class 10 will be attending weekly Swimming lessons on a Monday afternoon. Great fun is had by all during the many exciting and interesting swimming activities.
In our Come and See lessons this term we will be exploring the topic of MISSION.
BIG QUESTION: Do we ALL have a mission in life?
In our Topic lessons this term we will be learning all about the Rivers and Mountains.
The children are currently undertaking a Research Project about a river and mountain of their choice. We have been discovering lots of interesting facts already!
We have also completed our own perspective drawings; usually photographs like the one below as inspiration.
In our Science lessons this term we are learning all about Healthy Bodies.
The children are leading their own Science sessions this half-term through a investigation project about this subject.
As part of the Computing curriculum in Year 5 we are learning all about safe use of email as we communicate.
Each child in year 5 will be assigned a Toco Mail email address which they can use to communicate with children in our school. All email accounts will be monitored by class teachers and children can not send or receive any messages which are not also seen by an adult. We hope that by using these email addresses the children in year 5 will become more aware of safe use of email and also be able to have some fun keeping in touch with friends.
If you would like to read more about Toco Mail please visit their website here where you can learn more about Toco Mail and how it works.
In Class 10 we are lucky to have a large library area filled with lots of books for the children to share and enjoy. We have a library monitor who looks after the library and keeps track of all of the books. Children can sign books out of our class library and take them home to share with family and enjoy in their own time.
We have a Pit in our classroom which reminds us that it is ok to be unsure when completing work. It encourages us to find tools which we can use to get ourselves out of the pit. Our Pit area also has some helpful resources and challenge activities which can help us to go further with our work.
Our computing area
We have a computer in our school which children can use in lesson times and in golden times to do research to help in lessons and complete different tasks. The children have written their own e safety rules which they have promised to stick by to stay safe when using the internet both in class and at home.

Packed Lunches, Healthy Snacks and our School Tuck Shop
At SMAAA we are a healthy school and encourage all children to eat healthy snacks and lunches.
Packed lunches brought into school should consist of healthy food and snacks and should not include chocolate or fizzy drinks.
Children may also bring in a healthy snack to enjoy at break time such as fruit, cheese or toast. Alternatively children can bring in some money to buy a snack from our tuck shop. The Junior tuck shop is run by the Year 6 children and Mr Lewis. They sell a variety of snacks including cheese, fruit and water. The money raised by the Tuck Shop is used to provide awards throughout the year.
