Year 2 (Class 6)

Welcome to Year 2 (Class 6)

Mrs Elliott

Hello to all of our children, parents and families!  Welcome to Year 2.  We are delighted to see all of the hard work that you are already doing this week at home. Well done and keep it up!

January 2021 – Home Learning

Hi all!

We hope that you had a lovely time over Christmas and New Year with your families and are sad that we won’t be welcoming your lovely, happy faces back this week but are glad that you are all hopefully keeping yourselves safe at home! Over the coming weeks we will be posting work and lessons to keep you busy and still learning while you are at home! We can’t wait to see all your hard work!

Make sure to check our class page and google classroom every day for any updates, lessons or work that we will be posting. We look forward to welcoming you all back as soon as possible but in the meantime, keep yourselves busy, happy and safe!

This work will also be posted on our Google Classroom.  Please log in there too.

Reading

It is really important for you all to keep reading everyday at home. You should aim for at least 10mins per day. Here are the log in details for Oxford Owl. On here you will find many reading books. Think about which colour band you were reading in school and start there. If you are not sure, send us a message and we can tell you where to begin! Enjoy!

Username: Smaaaclass05        Password:  Angels05

Click on E-Book Library and search for ‘Dinosaur Safari’.  Your task for today is to read this book, by yourself if you can, otherwise with an adult to help you.  If you get stuck you can click the arrow under each page and you will be able to listen to the page being read to you.

Maths:

L.O – I can make equal groups (recap).

We are going to look at starting multiplication and division. This week we are going to go over some of the things that you might have learnt in Year 1 to get you started!

Every day this week there will be a link to a video for you to watch. These are the slides that we sometimes use in class when learning in maths lessons so hopefully you will recognise them! Listen carefully as the teacher explains the ideas and join in when you can. You can watch the video as many times as you need.

Today we just want you to practise the skills so there is no written activity. Just complete the activities along with the video. You can write these on paper if you want or just talk through them with someone at home. Good luck!

PE – instructions

Computing:

Our new topic for this term is coding. The video below called “What is Coding?” will help you to understand what is coding and why it is used.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/ztqxhyc

When you have watched this video we would like you to try coding! We want you to use a programming software to move an object on your screen. To do this you will need to follow this link below called JIT5.

https://www.j2e.com/jit5?fileId=ar5v2sCoBLpFYBED#turtle

When you have accessed this webpage we want you to use coding to move the rocket forwards and backwards and turn right and left. You can do this by clicking the arrows around the rocket and then press the play button to watch your coding. Once you have done this try make a square or rectangle. You can ask someone in your bubble to have a go and compare your coding. Questions to think about – Did it work? Why didn’t it work? What would I do differently? Over the next few weeks we will be asking you to practice your coding using the apps scratch and Bee-Bot. They are free to download on android and apple devices. Your task this week is to download these apps so you can complete our tasks over the upcoming weeks.

Task- How animals change task

R.E:

L.O – To recognise that the Bible is a special book for Christians and name some of the stories in the Bible.

The Bible is God’s special book. It is all about how much God loves and cares for people. The Bible is the most important book that Christians use, because it is God’s Word, so it is always treated with reverence. Like all special books we take care of it, make sure our hands are clean before we use it and keep it in a safe place.

Talk about these questions with someone at home.

Q What is the Bible and why is it such an important book?

Q Why do you think we should show reverence for the Bible?

Task – Design a front cover for the Bible that shows it is a special book. Write on it some key words that you think describe the Bible and how we should treat it.

Challenge – On the back cover write a summary of what you would find inside.

Kenya – PPT

When you have looked PowerPoint, complete the worksheet by answering the questions and writing interesting facts that you have learnt about Kenya. You can use the PowerPoint to help you. *Challenge can you name 3 countries that border Kenya?*

Where is Kenya

R.E:

L.O – To recognise and name some of the special books used in church and the people who use them.

There are two main sections in the Bible. The Old Testament tells us about the time before Jesus.

The New Testament tells us about Jesus and the beginning of the Church. Some of the books are called by the name of the person thought to have written them: Mark, Jeremiah, Peter. Some are named after the person the story is about: Job, Ruth, Jonah. One is called after an event: Exodus. Others tell you about the content of the book: Genesis (Beginnings), Psalms, Proverbs, Letters.

The Bible is like a library of different books just like we saw a variety of different books that we have at home and in school.

Talk about these questions with someone at home.

Q What does the first part of the Bible tell us?

Q What is the second part of the Bible about?

Task – Create a poster showing your favourite book or story from the Bible. Write a sentence to describe what sort of story it is and why you like it.

Challenge – Is your book or story found in the Old or New Testament? Explain why you think it is found there.

Labels show us the parts of the dinosaur, such as legs and head. Write a description of the dinosaur below. You might want to include details about how the dinosaur looks and what it eats. Can you use an Adjective in your description? Can you challenge yourself to use more than one? Make sure you use the right punctuation. Below you will find an example of how you could set out your work, just click to have a look.

D.T

Last week for Design Technology we looked at stitching and went on a hunt for articles that had stitching in.  This week we are going to find out about a designer who is known for her beautiful use of stitching.  We can call this kind of stitching embroidery.  It is very detailed and takes a lot of practice to get right.

Read the slides with your adult and then have a go at the mini quiz.  Each question is worth a point!

Music: L.O – I can explore and talk about making sounds.

This week we are going to look at making sound effects so make sure you are somewhere where you can make some noise without disturbing anyone! J Sound effects are sounds (other than speech or music) that can be added to stories to make us feel as though we are in the scene.

Sound effects can be created using objects that are completely different to the thing they are representing. We can create the sound of a horse’s hooves using coconut shells, the sound of thunder and rain using a metal sheet along with a plastic container and grains of rice, or the sound of cracking bones with celery.

Materials and Making Sound: Sounds are made by playing different materials in different ways. We can hit, tap, scrape, shake, strum, pluck and knock. We can use every type of material, from wood, metal and stone, to plastic, paper and rubber.

Click on the link below and watch the video about making sound effects:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zk86qfr/articles/zk7wr2p

Task – See what you can find so make some sound effects of your own at home. How many can you find that represent a sound you may have heard in everyday life?

Q What materials did you use?                                                Q How did you make the sound?

Challenge: Why not try and set a scene using sound? Imagine a scene and all the sounds that might be in it. For example, a noisy restaurant would have the sound of cutlery on plates, chairs moving, waiters and customers talking, glasses clinking, a musician playing in the background.

Have a great week and we look forward to hearing from you and seeing all  of your hard work!
