We hope you are all well and keeping safe at home.
The work in your home learning packs should keep you busy for a week or two. We sent home a list of really useful websites that will be good to use at home – have a go at using these.
Parents – during this very challenging time it will be helpful to stick to a daily routine as much as possible. Break your day up with storytimes, exercise breaks and relaxation breaks.

Have a look at this mysterious picture.


I wonder who the message is from? I wonder where they are now, and where they were when they put the message in the bottle? Perhaps they were being chased by something, or looking for something? Maybe there is some magic involved, or a treasure map?

Write your own story about the adventure that led to the message in the bottle. Include a beginning, middle and an end. Here’s a story mountain to remind you how we can plan a story here.

Read the story of Palm Sunday here. Talk to your family about it. Think about how the crowd felt about Jesus then draw your own version of a palm leaf into your blue book. Write some words around your palm leaf to describe how you think the crowd felt.

St Mark said this about Good Friday. Read it with your family and say a prayer of thanks for all that God has given us.

Let’s dip into our Spanish this week while we get creative. Design a poster for Easter that uses the Spanish for Happy Easter – Feliz Pascuas. Include some pictures that represent new life and new beginnings.

MONDAY Choose one of the books from your pack and read half of it. Who are the main characters? Think of 3 adjectives to describe each of them and write them in your blue book. Click HERE to have a look at some adjectives you could use. You can draw the characters too.
TUESDAY Read the rest of your book and retell it in your own words to your family.
WEDNESDAY Draw a story map for your story. Make sure you include beginning, middle and end. Here is an example to remind you of what your map may look like.

THURSDAY Practice your reading detective skills by having a go at this comprehension How to look after a dog.
FRIDAY Using what you found out yesterday, create a poster about how to look after a dog. You can do this in your blue book. Don’t forget you will need pictures, labels and some top tips. Here is one that may give you some inspiration.

Then I want you to FaceTime or Skype somebody from your family that you cant visit at the moment. Tell them your rules for keeping safe online.

To keep with our topic about Neil Armstrong head to Nat Geo Kids and go on a fact finding mission about the space explorer. Then make a poster or fact file about him. You can do this in your blue book or on some paper. Don’t forget to include some pictures and important dates.

MUSICMusic
Listen to HAPPY by Pharrell Williams (feat. Minions). Practice singing along and try to follow the melody accurately. Use your voice to make long and short sounds.
CREATIVE TASK (TO BE DONE OVER 4 WEEKS)Creative
Over the next few weeks get creative and make a model of the Solar System. There are lots of examples online that you can take inspiration from, let your imagination run wild! (You can use the sheet I have given you for this week’s science task to help)

During your time in Year 2 you will learn lots of new and exciting things . All our  lessons are very engaging and lots of fun. Our classrooms are very interactive and are full of resources so even when you have finished your fantastic piece of work you can  still carry on learning.

Home readers

A specific day whereby your child must hand in their home reader will be written on their home reading comment book. This will be the day that your child must bring in their reading book to be changed.

Homework

Numeracy and Literacy homework will be given out every Friday (on alternate weeks). Homework will be collected in every Friday.

Water bottles

Please provide your child with a reusable water bottle (preferably one with a sports cap) that can be kept in school.

Uniform

Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled as this makes them easier to find if they are ever misplaced.

Glasses and Inhalers

If your child needs glasses and/or an inhaler please ensure that they have them when entering school.  If possible both can be kept in school.

Rewards

There are lots of opportunities for your child to earn a reward in year 2. They are all rewarded for their hard work through the week with Golden Time every Friday afternoon. Also two lucky children are picked for the Gold Award every Friday. As well as this two stars are chosen every day to choose a fantastic prize from our overflowing prize box.

Amazing manners, outstanding behaviour and brilliant work are just some of the ways you can get picked for a reward!

Religious Education

Our topic this term is Book. By the end of this topic your child will be able to talk about books that our special to  them.  They will also learn about the books used in Church on Sunday by the parish family.

Numeracy

This term we are focusing on multiplication and division. The children will be completing tasks that involve counting in 2s,3s,5s and 10s. We will also be using our reasoning and problem solving skills to solve some multiplication and division word problems.

 

Topic 

This term we are focusing on Africa. By the end of the topic all children will be able to explain why the climate is different in different parts of Africa. They will be able to describe different habitats.  We will also be compare African culture to UK culture.  

 

Science

This term we will be focusing on Living Things and Their Habitats. We will be finding out why certain animals can only live in certain climates. We will also be conducting some interesting investigations in order to prove or disprove our hypothesis.

 

DT

This term we will be making a book mark using running stitch. We will also be planning an evaluating our final design as well as finding inspiration from certain designers.

 

 

Authors

Pop into your local library and read a book by one or more of these authors and tell me what you think!

Anthony Browne

Anthony Browne is an amazing author and his books are very engaging and thought provoking and  not to mention his illustrations are very entertaining! We will be reading his books throughout the year. 

Dr Seuss

Dr Suess is a wonderful author! His stories are crazy,confusing and fun. Once  you  finally get your tongue around some of the nonsense words his stories hold some very important messages! What could the hidden message be in The Lorax?

Julia Donaldson

Julia Donaldson is a fantastic author! Her stories make us laugh out loud in the infants. I will be reading her stories for the rest of my life! Stickman and The Grufalo are my all time favourites. What’s your favourite Julia Donaldson story?
